All missionaries and members are safe following a series of tornadoes that hit nine Midwest states in mid-November, leaving 12 dead and destroying or damaging 1,500 homes.

In Illinois, nine member families were displaced as a result of damage to their homes, according to a Church welfare report. Eight of those families have already secured long-term housing.

After the storms, the Church began to offer relief. Some 545 volunteers from the Peoria Illinois Stake assisted in the cleanup effort in hard-hit Washington, Illinois—contributing 3,705 hours of labor. Another 75 members from the Joliet Illinois Stake gave 450 hours to the cleanup in the Coal City/Diamond area. Full-time missionaries from the Illinois Chicago West Mission also assisted members in the cleanup effort.
