CALI, COLOMBIA
A missionary serving in the Cali Colombia Mission died August 31 after being struck by a stray bullet.

Elder Jose Daniel Encarnacion Montero, a native of the Dominican Republic, was with three other missionaries when he was killed, according to Church spokeswoman Ruth Todd. The other missionaries were unharmed, and the situation at press time remained under police investigation.

“Elder Encarnacion’s passing will be deeply felt in the mission and by all who knew him,” said Sister Todd in a news release. “We grieve with his family and friends during this time of mourning and extend to them our love, prayers, and deepest sympathy.”

Cali Colombia Mission President Jonathan M. Prince called Elder Encarnacion “a wonderful young man—a dependable, effective representative of the Church and the Lord.”
