New Temple Presidents for Newport Beach and Phoenix Temples
Two new temple presidents and their wives have been called by the First Presidency. They will begin their service later this year.
Newport Beach California Temple
Marilyn Ann and Joseph I. Bentley
Joseph Ivins Bentley, 73, Newport Hills Ward, Newport Beach California Stake, called as president of the Newport Beach California Temple, succeeding President R. Dean Olson. President Bentley’s wife, Marilyn Ann Brown Bentley, will serve as temple matron, succeeding Sister VaLoye R. Olson. He serves as a ward mission leader and as a sealer and temple ordinance worker in the Newport Beach California Temple. He has served as a regional representative, stake president, bishop, high councilor, and service volunteer at the BYU Jerusalem Center. A retired attorney, he was born in Safford, Arizona, to Israel Ivins and Anna Laura Walser Bentley.
Sister Bentley serves as a gospel doctrine teacher, ward missionary, and temple ordinance worker in the Newport Beach California Temple. She has served as a stake and ward Relief Society president, district Young Women president, member of a ward Primary presidency, and service volunteer at the BYU Jerusalem Center. She was born in Portland, Oregon, to Kenneth C. and Mary Lemon Brown.
Phoenix Arizona Temple
Karen J. and Russell S. Gilliland
Russell Stewart Gilliland, 65, Independence Ward, Phoenix Arizona West Maricopa Stake, called as president of the new Phoenix Arizona Temple. President Gilliland’s wife, Karen Jones Gilliland, will serve as temple matron. President Gilliland serves as a temple sealer in the Mesa Arizona Temple. He has served as second counselor of the Mesa Arizona Temple presidency, visitors’ center director, mission president, stake president, bishop, and high councilor. The president and owner of an electric company, he was born in Morenci, Arizona, to Howard and Ruth Henkel Gilliland.
Sister Gilliland serves as a temple ordinance worker in the Mesa Arizona Temple. She has served as assistant to the matron of the Mesa Arizona Temple and as ward Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary president. Sister Gilliland also served with her husband in his callings as visitors’ center director and mission president. She was born in American Fork, Utah, to Karl and Ramona Hunsaker Jones.
