Speakers Announced for RootsTech 2014

Elder Neil L Andersen will speak at the Family Discovery Day held in conjunction with the 2014 RootsTech conference, along with other Church leaders and popular LDS speakers.

Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve will speak Saturday, February 8, at the Family Discovery Day for Church members in conjunction with the 2014 RootsTech conference to be held February 6-8 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

RootsTech, a three-day family history event hosted by FamilySearch each year, showcases ways to discover, share, and preserve your family history. Family History Day on Saturday includes free inspirational classes for members of the Church to learn more about strengthening family relationships across generations through family history as well as activities specifically for youth ages 12–18. Registration is required. 

Other Family Discovery Day speakers include Elder Allan F. Packer and Elder Bradley D. Foster of the Seventy, as well as author and historian Heidi Swinton, and author and youth speaker John BytheWay.

Keynote speakers for the 2014 RootsTech Conference include The Pioneer Woman blogger and author, Ree Drummond, and NieNie Dialogues blogger and author, Stephanie Nielsen. 

Ree is an award-winning blogger and New York Times bestselling author. Her popular website was founded in 2006 and showcases her cooking, photography, and stories about country life.

Stephanie Nielsen’s story of survival and recovery after a plane crash captured the hearts of the nation. She has inspired others through interviews with Oprah Winfrey, an appearance on the Today Show, and as the subject of the Mormon Messages video “My New Life.”

Other RootsTech keynote speakers include:

        - Dr. Spencer Wells, project director of the National Geographic Genographic Project, who has collected the DNA of more than a half-million people to tell the story of the human journey

        - Annelies van den BeltCEO of DC Thomson Family History, a company that hosts 1.8 billion genealogical records across a family of online brands

        - Todd Hansen, host of the television series The Story Trek in which random door-to-door interviews reveal unique and often surprising stories

        - Professional genealogist Judy Russell, who explains the interplay between genealogy and the law in her blog, The Legal Genealogist

Thousands of attendees from around the world are expected to attend the RootsTech 2014 conference this year. To accommodate growing demand, RootsTech will be held on the east side of the Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City.
