Many Church members find fulfillment in their later years serving as senior missionaries.

“While most people think of Mormon missionaries as young men in iconic white shirts and ties or conservatively dressed young women, few realize the scale of service at the other end of life.”

Michael Otterson, public affairs director for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recently posted an article on the Washington Post Blog, “On Faith,” asking returned senior service missionaries to share their experiences.

In “The Mormon Retirement Plan” Brother Otterson points out the rising number of retirements as the first Baby Boomers reach age 65.

“For many older Mormons, though, ‘retirement’ means something else altogether,” he writes.

The post goes on to explain what senior missionaries are, what they do, and why they do it.

Senior missionaries around the world have been invited to share their experiences in this Washington Post blog. To read the experiences or post your own go to http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/on-faith/post/the-mormon-retirement-plan/2011/06/27/AGQwgunH_blog.html
