Joseph Smith Memorial Building Centennial Celebration Begins
The former Hotel Utah, now the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, will celebrate 100 years on June 9 and 10, 2011.

On June 9, 2011, the centennial birthday celebration of the former Hotel Utah and current Joseph Smith Memorial Building will begin.
A ribbon cutting to open a commemorative exhibit in the grand lobby of the building will begin the two days of celebration on Thursday, June 9, at 6:30 p.m.
The free public exhibit will feature stories and mementos from the building’s storied history. It will be on display through mid-September.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will perform from the mezzanine inside the grand lobby. The Legacy Theatre will also show a portion of a documentary on the building’s 100-year history.
An invitation-only gala will be held on the following day, Friday, June 10, for Church and community leaders.

The easily recognizable 10-story white building that sits on the corner of Main Street and South Temple in downtown Salt Lake City first opened its doors as the Hotel Utah on June 9, 1911. It served as the hotel in Salt Lake City for the next 76 years, when it was closed for extensive renovations.
It reopened in 1993 as the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, and today it welcomes the public to its three restaurants and multiple banquet rooms and provides office space for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
