“We’re really looking to make all Church materials and services directly accessible to as many members as possible.” —Dennis Chidester, communications specialist for store.LDS.org
Access to Church materials just became much easier for thousands of members with the addition of the French, German, and Italian languages to store.LDS.org.
The Online Store places gospel materials—study aids, music, media, art, garments, temple clothing, and other resources—at members’ fingertips.
Store.LDS.org replaces ldscatalog.com and was originally released in English, Russian, and Spanish, but French, German, and Italian are also available now.
In addition, free shipping became available to the Europe and Europe East Areas as well as the Africa Southeast Area (Mauritius, Réunion, and South Africa).
“We’re really looking to make all Church materials and services directly accessible to as many members as possible,” said Dennis Chidester, communications specialist for store.LDS.org.
Increased functionality on the site also improves members’ access to Church materials. Key features of the online store include self-service ordering; direct delivery; enhanced ordering of sacred clothing; online access to Church publications; and live, multilingual customer support.
Visitors to the site begin by identifying their country. They are then shown the products available in that country’s primary language with all prices listed in local currency. Any item not available in that language will be listed in the other languages it is available in.
Materials ship around the world free of charge. Some materials on store.LDS.org are free and can be downloaded directly from the website, including family group sheets, “The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” and Young Women Personal Progress tracking sheets. The online store will also link to certain products on LDS.org, such as the scriptures, which are available in various formats.
“Store.LDS.org is designed to help parents establish righteous families, to help stake and ward councils strengthen families and establish strong stakes of Zion, and to assist all individuals who are searching for truth and righteousness,” said Brother Chidester, quoting the store’s purpose statement.
Purchase requires users to log in with an LDS Account to verify whether a member is authorized to buy certain materials. For example, only endowed members of the Church can purchase temple clothing. Other materials are available only to priesthood leaders.
Plans are in place to make store.LDS.org available in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese in the future.
