Floods Force Families to Evacuate

Winter floods in the northwestern United States caused extensive damage, particularly in the Coeur d’Alene Idaho Stake, during January.

Hardest hit were members of the Kellogg Ward. Under the direction of Bishop Jerold Brower, several families were evacuated from their homes and went to live with other members.

Relief Society officers had complete lists of facilities available and were quickly able to match families with needs with those who had the right facilities.

Most schools were closed during this time and closed roads kept many members away from church meetings.

There was no loss of life or serious injury reported.

Heavy rains and extensive thawing caused damage in Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and northern California.

There was no reported damage to any Church-owned facilities.
