Two New Missions Formed
While two of his sons preside over the two missions in Sweden, President Roy W. Oscarson of St. Louis, Missouri, has been called to preside over one of the two new missions created in Britain.
The Scotland Glasgow Mission over which President Oscarson now presides has been formed from a section of the Scotland Edinburgh Mission, plus Northern Ireland.
The new Ireland Dublin Mission, presided over by Elder Royden G. Derrick, new member of the First Quorum of Seventy, will encompass the Irish Republic.
Formerly, the Church’s missionary efforts in Ireland were conducted through the Ireland Belfast Mission, now dissolved, whose president, Arvel L. Child, has been called to serve as a special assistant to London Temple President Joseph L. Darling.
President Oscarson’s sons, G. Richards and Paul Kent Oscarson, preside over the Sweden Stockholm Mission and the Sweden Göteborg Mission respectively.
President Derrick of the Ireland Dublin Mission, a native of Salt Lake City, also recently completed a three-year assignment as president of the England Leeds Mission.
With the creation of the new mission boundaries, the former mission home in Belfast will be disposed of, and missionaries serving in Northern Ireland will now be part of the Scotland Glasgow Mission.
