Inside back cover: The Dedication of the Vernal Tabernacle, by David R. Ahrnsbrak, oil on panel, 15″ x 23″, 1984. Courtesy of Kathleen Merkley McOmber. This scene portrays the events of 24–25 August 1907, when the Uintah Tabernacle in Vernal, Utah, was dedicated by President Joseph F. Smith. In February 1994, the First Presidency announced plans to “use the shell of the building, restoring its original outside appearance and creating within a beautiful temple,” preserving the tabernacle “as a memorial to the faithful people who built it with much sacrifice a century ago.” Additional space will be added to the tabernacle’s eastern end. The tabernacle, a prominent structure in the early 1900s, remains a significant landmark in Vernal today.
