Hymns and children’s songs enhance worship and invite the Spirit. Now Church members are being invited to participate in the revision process as a new, unified core collection of hymns and children’s songs is developed.

The Church has announced plans to publish new, unified editions of both Hymns and the Children’s Songbook. And members are invited to participate in the revision process in unprecedented ways.

Why the new editions?

  • To create a core collection of hymns and children’s songs that is the same in every language, with the same numbering. (Currently, hymnbooks and hymn numbers vary widely, which is inconvenient for multi-cultural wards and branches or for visitors who speak a different language.)

  • To better reflect the diverse needs of members around the world.

  • To resolve copyright issues, improve the quality of translations, and provide more consistent digital access.

  • To fill doctrinal gaps.

What are members being invited to do?

  • Provide feedback about what you love and don’t love about the current hymnbooks and children’s songbook.

  • Provide suggestions for music to include in the new editions.

  • Submit original work (music, text, or lyrics) to be considered for publication.

Members can submit feedback and original music at newmusic.lds.org. An individual may submit up to five original hymns and five original children’s songs (the deadline is July 1, 2019). The site also provides a list of answers to frequently asked questions.
