Music in Palestine

In the time of Jesus, many strangers used to journey to Palestine. There were soldiers from Rome and merchants wearing the trader’s cap, who came from Aphek and Ur. They came from Greece and Babylon and many other countries. They majority of them could not speak Hebrew, but they all understood the true universal language—music.

When the foreigners saw a procession in the streets of Jerusalem, their feet kept time to the beat, and they sang each tune with joy. The harp and timbrel spoke to them, and when they heard the clash of a cymbal or the sound of pipes, they remembered processions in their homeland, and their hearts were warmed.
