Sharing Time: Blessings Follow Obedience

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. (Eph. 6:1.)

Blessings Follow Obedience

Instructions: Color and cut out each figure with its accompanying story. Fold on dotted line and glue drinking straw between papers 1″ from bottom. Cut out a piece of paper the same shape as puppets, and draw another picture of a woman you know who has been blessed because of her obedience (mother, relative, or leader). Visit this person and tell her the experiences of the other figures, using your egg carton stage. (See inside back cover for instructions.) Ask her to tell you about some of her experiences and write one of them on the back of her picture. Then glue to straw. Figures could also be used during family home evening or as Mother’s Day table decorations by standing them in a gumdrop. In the June Friend watch for puppets representing men who were obedient. (See inside back cover for additional ideas.)

Egg Carton Stage

Cut a piece of construction paper to fit the top of egg carton lid. Write “Blessings Follow Obedience” and scriptural reference (Eph. 6:1), then glue onto lid (see illustration). Make holes in centers of four or five egg cups for puppets. Pull puppets down behind lid. As you use each puppet, push straw up so figure appears above lid; then read its description. Store your puppets inside carton. (See page 48 for puppet instructions.)

Sharing Time Ideas

Enlarge figures and follow instructions given, but attach puppet to ruler or stick used for stirring paint. Asign children to hold and read the experience of each figure. Discuss with them who the people are and what they did. You could play “Who Am I?” to review presentation. A copy of the puppets could be prepared for each child and a challenge given to use them during family home evening. (See page 48 for puppet instructions.)
