To make this Mother’s Day gift, you will need: scissors, piece of cardboard or heavy construction paper, red marker, trimmings (if desired), fine black pen or felt-tip marker, glue, clothespin, small magnet.

  1. Cut out scripture cards.

  2. Cut 2″ (5 cm) heart out of cardboard, color it red, and write “To Gladden the Heart” on it with black pen.

  3. Glue heart to top of clothespin, as illustrated.

  4. Glue small magnet to back of clothespin.

  5. Place scripture cards in gripping end of clothspin.

  6. Make additional scripture cards if you wish, using your favorite scriptures or some of the following “heart” scriptures: Jacob 3:2, Proverbs 24:17 [Prov. 24:17], Doctrine and Covenants 61:2 [D&C 61:2], Doctrine and Covenants 64:34 [D&C 64:34], Psalm 119:10 [Ps. 119:10], Psalm 19:14 [Ps. 19:14], Proverbs 4:20–21 [Prov. 4:20–21].

My peace I give unto you. … Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27.)

Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him (1 Cor. 2:9).

Let all thy thoughts be directed unto the Lord; yea, let the affections of thy heart be placed upon the Lord forever (Alma 37:36).

Pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ (Moro. 7:48).

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Prov. 3:5–6.)

Forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee (Prov. 3:1–2).

A merry heart doeth good like a medicine (Prov. 17:22).

Therefore, cheer up your hearts, and remember that ye are free to act for yourselves—to choose the way of everlasting death or the way of eternal life (2 Ne. 10:23).

All things which come of the earth, in the season thereof, are made for the benefit and the use of man, both to please the eye and to gladden the heart (D&C 59:18).

The Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart (1 Sam. 16:7).

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself (Luke 10:27).

Yea, behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart (D&C 8:2).
