Star-Spangled Wand

To make a wand, you will need: tracing paper, pencil, scissors, heavy colored paper, glue, glitter, curling ribbon, and a 3/8″ (1 cm) wooden dowel 12″ (30.5 cm) long.

  1. 1.

To make a pattern, trace the star on this page and cut it out.

  2. 2.

Trace the pattern onto the colored paper and cut it out.

  3. 3.

Cover one side of the colored star with glue, and sprinkle glitter over it. Lightly press the glitter into the glue and let it dry.

  4. 4.

Glue the other side of the star to the dowel (see illustration). Let dry.

  5. 5.

Curl several lengths of ribbon, tie each to the dowel, then glue them in place.

Frog Life

A frog’s life must be rather fun!
He never has to trot or run
But stays where it is green and cool,
Kerplunking in his swimming pool.
On a lily pad, he eats
By flicking his tongue to catch his meat.
Then, when daylight slips into night
And frogdom basks in pale moonlight,
He and his friendly comrades tune
And puff contentedly and croon
Till first faint promises of morning come.
And then they sing their last chug-rum.
No toil, no cares—it’s lives of ease
For frogs that do just as they please.

Firecracker Bananas

2 bananas, peeled

4 Popsicle sticks

1 cup cherry yogurt

colored sprinkles or chopped peanuts

  1. 1.

Cut the bananas in half. Insert a stick into the cut end of each half.

  2. 2.

Completely cover each banana with the yogurt.

  3. 3.

Lightly cover the bananas with the sprinkles or nuts. Place on waxed paper and freeze for two hours. Serve them immediately or store them in a covered container in the freezer.
