Winter Fun

Outside: Snow Painting

For each color, you will need: a package of a different-color fruit-drink mix (or food coloring), 4 cups water, and a clean, plastic spray bottle.

  1. Pour the mix (do not add sugar) and the water into the bottle; shake well.

  2. Go outside and paint! You might give a snowman rosy cheeks and a red shirt, paint a picture using the snow on the lawn as your piece of paper, play ticktacktoe, or whatever you like.

Inside: Snowless Snowman

To make a snowless snowman, you will need an old newspaper, 3–3 1/2 c. grated Ivory bar soap, 1/4–1/2 c. Ivory snow laundry detergent, a large bowl, water, and sewing scraps or other materials for decorations and features.

  1. Spread lots of newspaper on the table so that you can easily clean up later.

  2. Pour the grated soap and 1/4 cup laundry detergent into the bowl, add about 1/4 cup water and knead the mixture. Add detergent or water as needed until the mixture can be molded into a snowman that will hold its shape.

  3. Decorate with button eyes, peppercorns, a scrap-felt hat, a toothpick walking-stick, or whatever you like.
