Childviews—
Your Pioneer Art:
Pioneer Teacher

Mary Jane Dilworth Hammond was my great-great-great-grandma. As a pioneer in Council Bluffs, Iowa, she taught some children their ABCs by writing with charcoal on the tailgates of wagons. Brigham Young saw her and asked her to teach young children when she reached the valley. Someday I would like to be a schoolteacher like Mary. Our classrooms will be very different. Imagine—going from wagon tailgate to computers!
