If your family stays home to watch general conference on television, a parent or older person could help you make this special family breakfast to eat before conference begins. If you go to a stake center to watch conference, your family might enjoy these recipes as a breakfast-for-dinner when you return home. The “General Conference Snack Mix” would also make a great family home evening treat!
2 apples, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
5 tablespoons butter/margarine
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
With the help of an older person, lower the rack in your oven so that it is closer to the bottom of the oven than to the top. Preheat the oven to 425° F (220° C).
In a small bowl, mix the apple slices with the two sugars and cinnamon; set aside.
Chop the butter/margarine and scatter it in a 9″ x 13″ (23 cm x 33 cm) glass baking dish, then place the dish in the oven.
While the butter/margarine melts, beat the eggs, then stir in the milk, flour, and salt.
As soon as the butter starts to bubble, remove the baking dish from the oven and pour in the sugar-and-apple mixture. Without stirring, pour the egg-milk-and-flour mixture on top.
Carefully return the baking dish to the oven and bake for 20–22 minutes. Watch the amazing pancake rise! Cut the pancake into squares and sprinkle powdered sugar on top. Makes 6 servings.
2 cups milk
3/4 cup frozen orange juice concentrate
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
15–17 ice cubes
Place the milk, orange juice concentrate, sugar, and vanilla into a blender and cover with the blender’s lid. Blend these ingredients together. If you do not have a blender, place the ingredients in a large bowl and use a hand or an electric mixer.
With the blender still running, drop the ice cubes through the hole in the lid, one at a time. Keep the blender running until all of the ice is chopped. If you are using a hand or electric mixer, place the ice cubes in large plastic bag and crush them with a hammer. Then stir the crushed ice into the bowl of ingredients. Pour the juice into six small cups and serve it immediately.
2 pounds (910 grams) precooked ham, cut into 1″ (2.5 cm) cubes
1 package (12 ounces/340 grams) small frozen sausages, thawed and cut in half (small fresh sausages may also be used)
6 metal or wooden skewers
If using wooden skewers, soak them in water. Preheat a griddle or electric grill. Alternately thread ham cubes and sausage onto the skewers.
Grill the kabobs for 15 minutes or until the meat is heated through, turning frequently.
1 package (8 ounces/227 grams) cream cheese, softened
1 jar (7 ounces/198 grams) marshmallow creme
variety of fruit, washed and cut into bite-size pieces
In a medium bowl, stir together the cream cheese and marshmallow creme; refrigerate it until served.
Serve the dip with the fruit of your choice.
2 cups salted peanuts
3 cups miniature pretzels
1 cup candy-covered chocolate pieces
1 cup raisins
In a large bowl, toss together all the ingredients. Store in an airtight container.
For individual servings, scoop the snack mix into small plastic resealable bags.
