The Sacrament

“The Sacrament,” Friend, Mar. 2005, 13

The Sacrament

I bow my head;

The prayer is said.

My feet are still;

My eyes are closed.

I think of Jesus suffering

In the garden long ago.

Row by row, in silver trays,

The bread is passed so reverently.

I think of Jesus on the cross

And know He died for me.

I choose a cup of water clear

And remember joyfully

Jesus by the empty tomb.

I know He lives for me!

As I take the sacrament,

I think of Jesus and I pray

That someday I can live with Him

Through promises I’ve made today.
