The members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles are prophets, seers, and revelators and stand as special witnesses of Jesus Christ. They have the responsibility to testify of Him to the whole world.
Can you guess who this is? Read the clues about this member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Then find the answer below.
He was born on August 24 in New York. He and his brother and sister liked to help their father build fishponds and rock gardens in their wooded yard.
After he graduated from the University of Utah, he went into active duty in the United States Air Force as a jet fighter pilot.
His career in business took him and his family to England, Germany, and Spain.
He is eighth in seniority in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
He and his wife, Mary, were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 10, 1953.
While growing up in New York, the headquarters of the United Nations was within his school district boundaries. He had many friends from different countries. He liked sitting in the schoolyard and talking to them about their cultures and beliefs. He says: “Our different cultures and backgrounds make life exciting and interesting, and when we look beyond differences, we find we still have the same basic feelings and needs.”
As a boy, he spent two summers working on his uncle’s ranch in Skull Valley, Utah. The first few days he was tired and discouraged, but he came to enjoy the work of rounding up wild horses, baling hay, and caring for the animals.
Words of Wisdom
There are two things about friendship that I have learned. One is, good friends do not make you choose between their way and the Lord’s way. Second, good friends make it easier for you to stay on the strait and narrow path and to gain eternal life. In other words, when you are in their presence, it’s easier for you to live properly (“Integrity and Values: A Discussion … ,” Ensign, Apr. 2005, 49).
