Trying to Be Like Jesus

When Jesus Christ was on the earth, He followed the commandments, helped others, and showed love to everyone. Every day, children find ways they can follow the Savior’s example.

Serving Mom

Ruby B., age 5, Hawaii

I don’t like to put away my clothes after my parents fold the laundry. I usually complain. One morning I got the idea to get up before my mom and surprise her by putting away all my clothes before she woke up. My mom was very happy and surprised. I know I followed Jesus’s example by serving my mom.

Sabbath Decision

Aurora S., age 6, Texas

One of my good friends was having a birthday party, and I was very excited to go. When I showed my mom the invitation, she said the party was on a Sunday. My parents said I could make the decision on my own if I was going to go. I told them that I really wanted to go, but I knew that it would not be the right thing and that Heavenly Father would want me to keep the Sabbath day holy. I think Heavenly Father and Jesus were happy that I made the right choice.

Helping Others

Emily, Brennan, and Anna R., ages 10, 6, and 3, Alberta, Canada

For family home evening we helped make sandwiches for a children’s care center in our city. Everyone had a different job assembling the sandwiches (spreading, cutting, adding cheese, and closing the sandwiches). We imagined what the people at the center looked like and where they came from. Maybe they were children just like us. We felt good to know we could help others.

An Honest Choice

Shawn H., age 6, California

I went with my cousins to one of my favorite places with activities and games. While we were there I found $5 on the ground. This was enough money to buy 20 game tokens. But instead of exchanging the money for tokens, I turned in the money to lost and found. I knew it was the right thing to do. The employee I gave the money to was glad I was honest and, in return, gave me some free tokens. It felt good to make the right choice.

A Happy Helper

B.J. C., age 6, Texas

One day when we got in the car, my mom said that that night we would clean up the playroom because it was so messy. When we got home, I went to the playroom. I cleaned up the toys and wiped the dust with a cloth. When I told my mom, she was amazed at how clean the room was. My mom was happy! I know helping others is the right thing to do because it builds up my family and makes me happy.

Letting Him In

Breck D., age 7, Utah

One time I started a club. I let my little brother in the club even though the older kids didn’t want him to join. I think Jesus would have let my little brother in because Jesus loves everyone, and I want to be like Jesus.

Tell us how you’re trying to be like Jesus. Turn to page 48 to find out how to send us a letter.
