Possible Ideas for Family Home Evening

  1. Do the activity “What Do You See?” (page 34). Once you have figured out the pictures, find similar places in your own home. Discuss how these places can make your family more peaceful and loving.

  2. Make a Sunday Jar. As a family, talk about keeping the Sabbath day holy and brainstorm activities that are Sunday-appropriate. (Look for ideas on pages 24–25.) Write these ideas on pieces of paper to put in a clean jar or cup. Put the jar in a room where the family will remember it. This way, your family will always have ideas for Sunday activities.

  3. Read “Gifts of Courage” (page 2) and do the activity on page 3. Which of these gifts have your family members received? Which ones are they using now to give them courage?

  4. Giving talks can be scary, as Lucinda finds out in “Fear Not” (pages 44–45). One thing that makes talks less scary is being prepared. As a family, brainstorm ideas for Primary talks. Have each child write a talk and practice giving it to the family.

  5. Have a missionary-inspired night. Share stories and photos from missionaries or journals of returned missionaries, or cook food that a missionary you know might eat in his or her area. Then discuss how to prepare for a mission, using Elder Bednar’s thoughts as guidance (page 11).
