Step by Step

Out-of-Unit Members and Callings

Policy and Principles

A ward may obtain the name, birth date, gender, and priesthood office of a member whose records do not reside in the ward in the following situations:

  • A member participates regularly in another unit because of a family situation, such as a child of divorced parents.
  • A member is called to serve in another unit, such as a bishop of a young single adult ward.
  • A spouse of a member called to serve in another unit wishes to participate in that ward, such as the wife of a young single adult ward bishop.

Under these circumstances, the stewardship for maintaining the membership record and conducting interviews remains in the home ward. Out-of-unit members will appear in member lists, attendance rolls, and the Out-of-Unit Members report. Those with callings will also show up in the Out-of-Unit Callings report.
