Arrivals at the MTC occur on Wednesdays, in accordance with the date indicated in your call packet. Arrangements are made by the Church Travel Department and should allow for you to arrive at the MTC by 5:00 p.m. If you are arriving from within the city of Bogotá, you should be at the MTC at 10:00 a.m., and if traveling from any other city in Colombia, you should arrive before 3:00 p.m. If for any reason it is not possible for you to arrive by the designated hour on Wednesday, please make arrangements to arrive a day early. Coordinate closely with those who assist with your travel to ensure your itinerary is acceptable.
Your mission begins when you enter the missionary training center (MTC). You must complete all preparations before entering the MTC, including the purchase of all clothing and personal items. Personal time is extremely limited. You will not have an opportunity to leave the MTC to make purchases.
You should enter the MTC healthy, having already taken care of all health-related matters, including dental and eye exams and follow-up treatment. Complete all medical tests requested on the Missionary Immunization/Preventive Medication Requirements form. (You or those providing for your support must pay for pre-mission medical conditions, including dental and eye care.) Missionaries are not allowed to wear orthodontic braces during their service, and such treatment should be complete before entering the MTC.
You should be set apart as a full-time missionary by your stake president, receive your patriarchal blessing (if a patriarch is available in your stake), and, if you desire, receive a father's blessing before your arrival at the MTC. You are encouraged to bring a copy of your patriarchal blessing with you.
Bring the e-mail address of a member of your family so that you can write home via e-mail during your MTC stay (be sure to let your family know that you will be writing home by e-mail).
Bring the following when you come to the MTC:
- Items on the mission clothing list sent from the Missionary Department
- Soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, and other personal hygiene items
- Appropriate exercise clothing (five gym periods per week, one laundry day)
- At least one suit (for elders)
- Current temple recommend
- Money to cover expenses such as mailing letters
- Government-issued photo ID (such as, driver's license, passport, military ID, and so on). This ID is required by airport authorities.
- A copy of your completed Missionary Immunization/Preventive Medication Requirements form
- Sufficient garments (minimum 7 pairs). It is not easy to obtain them in the MTC. Make every effort to be endowed before arriving at the MTC. If this is impossible, be sure to bring enough underclothing for 7 days, as it will be 10 days after arriving at the MTC before you will be able to attend the temple.
- If your assignment is in Colombia, be sure to bring a document certifying your blood type (RH).
- IMPORTANT: Full set of scriptures (Bible, triple combination) and a hymnal
Please put your name on all clothing, luggage, and other belongings.
Report to the missionary training center dressed in missionary clothing and with an appropriate missionary haircut.

Regular missionary attire is the standard for dress at the MTC. Elders should be sure to wear a suit coat on the day of their arrival. For more information on missionary dress and grooming, please refer to your call packet or see dress and grooming guidelines.
All bedding supplies (sheets, blankets, pillows) and meals are provided by the MTC. Laundry and haircutting services are also provided.
You do not need to bring money to the MTC for room and board, training materials, laundry, haircuts, or other essential personal care items. However, you must provide your own spending money for other expenses not provided by the MTC.
During your stay at the MTC, you should focus on fulfilling your purpose as a missionary. Visits from family would create an element of distraction for you and your companion. Remember that your mission begins when you enter the MTC, and communication with family should be limited to letters and e-mails. If your family accompanies you to the MTC, you will have a few brief minutes to say good-bye and take pictures. It is recommended that this include only immediate family members.
Your training schedule will not allow time for visits from family or friends. Please advise your family not to request visits, because such visits would distract you and your companion from your training. Please do not meet your family or friends at the temple or in other places at any time. Church leaders have asked that missionaries not be excused to attend funerals, weddings, farewells, baptisms, or other family events. While you are at the MTC, all communications with family and others should be limited to weekly letters and/or weekly family e-mails.
Any packages or letters for missionaries should be sent through the postal service, UPS, DHL, Servientrega, or other commercial carriers. The MTC cannot accept packages or items delivered in any other way. Mail to you should be addressed with your full name and mission assignment.
You should receive all required immunizations before entering the MTC; however, you may purchase the required vaccines at the MTC if necessary. If you must receive vaccinations at the MTC, please bring $175 USD to cover the expense of these vaccinations.
The Church Travel Department in your home country will handle arrangements for your travel to the field. They will also give you official passport and visa instructions. You must follow these instructions carefully. You may be requested to send certain documents required for a visa. If you do not submit these documents by the requested date, your departure to the field may be delayed. Your departure may also be delayed because visas to certain countries are difficult to obtain.
