Historical Background

The England Missionary Training Center officially opened on February 11, 1985. Joseph B. Wirthlin, Europe Area President, presided over the opening session. The first director of the MTC was J. Talmage Jones with his companion Sister Vera Jean Jones. They arrived on January 10, 1985, for a tenure of one year. Twelve missionaries were assigned to the first training group.

In May 1998, the missionary training center moved to Chorley, Lancashire, on the site of the Preston England Temple. In June 1998, President Gordon B. Hinckley dedicated the MTC along with the temple.

Location

The England MTC is located on the site of the Preston England Temple, which is located in Chorley, Lancashire, six miles south of Preston.
