Amos 6: Woe to Those at Ease

Old Testament Seminary Student Study Guide, (2002), 184

Are there people in the Church today who seem to think they will be saved just because they are members of the Church, even if they do not really love and serve the Lord? The Israelites often made the mistake of thinking that the Lord would never let them be destroyed—even if they were not righteous—because they were God’s chosen people (see Deuteronomy 7:6).In Amos 6, the Lord condemned them because they thought more of their wealth and comforts than they did of justice, mercy, or their God (see also 2 Nephi 28:21–24). Because of these attitudes, the Lord said Israel would be carried away captive by their enemies.
