Ezekiel 43–44: The Glory of God Fills the Temple

Old Testament Seminary Student Study Guide, (2002), 174

How do you feel when you look at pictures of a temple or when you visit one and walk around it or go inside?Ezekiel 43 records that Ezekiel saw the glory of the Lord enter the temple and make it holy and sacred. Ezekiel was told that the Lord would dwell in the midst of His people in the temple. He was also told to tell the people what he saw to make them ashamed of their iniquities (see v. 11) and help create a desire in them to return to the Lord and worthily enjoy the blessings of the temple, a privilege they lost because of their unrepented sins.Ezekiel 44 sets forth the Lord’s clear charge that no unclean thing enter and worship in the temple Ezekiel saw. The Lord has set the same standard for those who enter temples in our day (see D&C 97:15–17).
