What Is Instagram?
Instagram is a fun, fast, and simple way to share your life through photos and short videos. Take a picture, add a filter if you’d like, and instantly share it for all your Instagram followers to see. Instagram is a creative visual tool for users to stay connected with friends and family. It also allows users to “like” and comment on posts to start a conversation.
Overview of Instagram
This photo-sharing app was created in October 2010 and has over 150 million active users every month. Originally created exclusively as a photo-sharing social networking site, Instagram expanded in June 2013 to allow users to share short videos.
Instagram is available for free downloads for Apple and Android devices. Once users have downloaded the app, they need only a username and password to get started.
Using Instagram is simple. Users snap photos, apply a filter to transform the images, and then share them with their followers. Users have the option of instantly sharing their Instagram photos to other social networking sites, including Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and Tumblr. Users can connect with other users by “liking” photos or by commenting on them. Instagram also allows users to connect with others through the use of hashtags. Hashtags are represented by a pound sign (#) attached to keywords or topics. They create an easy way to connect similar content.
In December 2013, Instagram introduced Instagram Direct, which allows users to share photos with specific followers only.
The Church and Instagram
The Church has been using Instagram since 2013 to share enriching visual content with followers. Instagram provides a convenient platform for the Church to share updates and news through photos and videos.
