Frequently Asked Questions about the Media Library

General Media Library Questions

What can I use the media for?

The media found on the Media Library can be used for a multitude of things. We
suggest using it for enhancing gospel lessons, sharing the gospel, deepening
personal study, and enriching family home evenings.

Most media is available for download to your personal computing device so you
can use it where there is no Internet connection. Some media, however, is not
available for download. This media can still be viewed and used, but an Internet
connection may be required.

How can I use media to share the gospel?
  • There are many ways you can use the media found on the Media Library to share
the gospel. Visit our page about using media to share the gospel for some
    suggestions.
Can I contribute my own artwork?
  • Yes! Visit create.lds.org for current needs and instructions on how to
    submit your work.
Can I access the Media Library in a language other than English?

Yes! The Media Library is also available in Spanish, Portuguese and American Sign Language. These languages can be accessed from the Media Library home page. Navigate to the Media Library home page and in the upper right corner is a drop down menu. From the drop down menu select a language option and the Media Library will now be displayed in that language.

There currently is not an “Images” section available on the Spanish and Portuguese pages and several videos are not available in these languages. Though not all content is available in these other languages we're continually adding new content.  If you are looking for specific content in one of these languages but don't see it on the Media Library, feel free to send us feedback and we'll see if it's available to add. Feedback links are located on the bottom of any page on our site.

Browsing and Searching Media

How do I browse media by topic?
  • To find videos based on topic select the "View by Topic" link on the video page under “Video Categories.” Within this category are various subcategories arranged by major gospel topics.

  • There isn't a “View by Topic” option available for images yet but there are a few image categories that have topic subcategories within them. You can find Inspirational Picture Quotes by topic, and there is also a Topical Index for Primary Symbols.
  •
  • Another option is to use the search bar on LDS.org. The search function includes images and videos in the Media Library. And if you use the “Search Media” search bar from a Media Library page your search will be narrowed automatically by searching only within the Media Library.
How can I search just for images or videos?

  • If you search from the main search bar on LDS.org there is an option on the left of the page to narrow your results to specific categories. Select the images or videos categories to narrow your results to either of those two categories.
  •
  • If you search from the “Search Media” box on a Media Library page your search will automatically be narrowed to images and videos within the Media Library.

Why are some videos not available for download?
  • Although many of the items in the LDS Media Library are available for download,
some are not. Videos, audio, and images that are not available to download
typically have Intellectual Property (IP) restrictions that prevent their use by the
general public. However, nondownloadable media files are still available to
stream and share with others, and we are working to make as much of the
content downloadable as possible. Please see the information on restrictions
Why did the video stop playing while streaming?

There may be a few different reasons a video stops playing, but it is usually a
bandwidth problem. This means that there is some congestion between your
computer and the source of the video; either there are too many people trying to
access that particular video or there are too many people trying to access the
Internet around you. Here are a few things you can try to have a smoother
viewing experience:

  1. Try refreshing the browser.
  2. Check your Internet connection to make sure you have a strong signal.
  3. Try getting on at a different time when Internet traffic might be lower.
  4. Try closing excess programs on your computer.
Why isn’t this video on the Media Library?

We strive to provide as many videos as possible on the Media Library. However,
some videos are not available on the Media Library, usually because they have
Intellectual Property (IP) restrictions that prevent their use on the site. If it is a
relatively new video, we may be in the process of adding it to the site, so check
back often for new content being added.

Feel free to send us feedback if there is a specific video you are looking for that you can't find on the Media Library, and we'll see if we can add it. Feedback links are found at the bottom of any page on the Media Library.

Can videos be shared on Facebook?

Yes! We encourage you to do so. Videos can be shared on Facebook a few
different ways:

  1. Find the video you would like to share.  In the upper right corner there is a
share icon. Click the icon, and it will give you the option to share the video
directly on Facebook or click “Copy Link” and then paste it into your Facebook
    status.
  1. Another option is to copy the URL from the browser address bar and paste it
    into your Facebook status.
Can I put the video on my blog or website?

Yes. Simply find the video you would like to post. In the upper right corner there
is a “Get Code” button. Click this button. Then select which type of code you need
(embed, Blogger, Wordpress, LiveJournal, TypePad). Then click “Copy Code” and
paste it onto your blog. (The process for embedding the video into your blog will
vary depending on which platform you use.)

Yes! To the right of each image there are share icons for Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. Select the Facebook icon and you'll be directed to Facebook. You may be prompted to log in if you aren't currently. A sample of your post with the image will be displayed. What are the use restrictions for images?

All images on the LDS Media Library are available for download, and you are free
to use them for noncommercial, personal, and Church-related purposes. We do
ask that you be respectful in the way you choose to use them.

Can I put the image on my blog or website?

Yes! We encourage members to use the images on the Media Library on their
blogs and personal websites. And we would love it if you would link the image
back to where you found it on the Media Library so others can download it from
the Media Library too.

Downloading Media

How do I download a video to my computer?
  1. Navigate to the video section of the Media Library and
locate the video you would like to download.
  2. Below the video you will see a Download link. Click Download.
  3. Select the size you want to download. Larger files take longer to download,
but the video quality is better.
  4. When you select a file size, the video may download automatically. If it does,
look for it in your Downloads folder. We recommend moving the file from the
Downloads folder to the desktop so you can find it easily.
  5. Depending on your browser, you may have the option of selecting where you
want to save the file. We suggest saving it on your desktop so you can find it
easily, but you can save it anywhere. You may want to rename the file with a
name that will help you remember what the video is about. Once you have
renamed the file and specified where you want to save it, click Save.
  6. The file is now downloaded to your computer and available for viewing
    without an Internet connection.
How do I download videos to an Android smartphone or tablet?

There are two options for downloading videos to an Android smartphone or tablet. You can download videos through your browser on the Media Library website or you can download videos from the Gospel Library app.

To download videos from the Gospel Library app:

  1. Download the free Gospel Library app
  2. From the Library section of the Gospel Library app, select the Videos icon.
  3. Select the genre your video belongs to (for example, Mormon Messages, Youth: Come, Follow Me, and so on), and navigate to the video you want.

  5. Select download and the video will begin downloading to your device.
  6. The next time you select the video and choose Play Video, it will play as a downloaded file from your device rather than stream over the Internet.

To download videos from the Media Library website on your browser:

These steps may vary depending on your device, but this should give you an idea of where to start.

  1. Using the Internet browser on your device, browse to the Media Library on
LDS.org and find the video you would like to download. Tap on the Download
    link below the video.
  2. Tap on the size you would like to download. Larger files take longer to
download, but the video quality is better.
  3. The video will automatically download. Navigate back to your home screen
    and open the Gallery app.

renamed the file and specified where you want to save it, click Save.
  1. Using DVD burning software (your computer may already have this software,
