<![CDATA[ ]]> <![CDATA[[SPEAKING CANTONESE] ]]> <![CDATA[My name is [INAUDIBLE]. ]]> <![CDATA[I serve in the China Hong Kong Mission as a missionary.]]> <![CDATA[I am Elder Mortensen, and I am a missionary]]> <![CDATA[from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.]]> <![CDATA[I'm Sister Rivera. ]]> <![CDATA[I'm from Uruguay, but I'm serving here]]> <![CDATA[in Colombia, Bogota. ]]> <![CDATA[We are here because we love Christ]]> <![CDATA[and we love these people. ]]> <![CDATA[This is the work of love, and we want to serve them.]]> <![CDATA[We want to let them know that Jesus loves them.]]> <![CDATA[Serving a mission is a voluntary service opportunity.]]> <![CDATA[For men, we will serve for two years.]]> <![CDATA[For women, they mainly serve for a year and a half.]]> <![CDATA[[SPEAKING CANTONESE] ]]> <![CDATA[As missionaries, we go around two by two.]]> <![CDATA[In the Bible, we learn that the Apostles,]]> <![CDATA[they went two by two to preach the gospel.]]> <![CDATA[We support each other. ]]> <![CDATA[It's a like a sister to me. ]]> <![CDATA[ ]]> <![CDATA[The missionary experience, getting a call,]]> <![CDATA[is something very special. ]]> <![CDATA[Before, you're just a normal kid.]]> <![CDATA[You send in your papers because you want to serve a mission.]]> <![CDATA[You send your papers in to the headquarters of the Church,]]> <![CDATA[and there is a three- to four-week period of waiting.]]> <![CDATA[And then the package arrives. ]]> <![CDATA[It's an envelope like this. ]]> <![CDATA[And it's like your whole life is just in that envelope.]]> <![CDATA[When the time comes to open it in front of your friends]]> <![CDATA[and family, it's an incredible experience.]]> <![CDATA["You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church]]> <![CDATA[of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.]]> <![CDATA[You are assigned to labor in the China Hong Kong Mission."]]> <![CDATA[Oh! ]]> <![CDATA[Every day is different. ]]> <![CDATA[Every day is special because all of these experiences]]> <![CDATA[that we have, I'll never forget them.]]> <![CDATA[I just love this opportunity that we have.]]> <![CDATA[I'm here to help people to come to a knowledge of how]]> <![CDATA[they can lead happy lives. ]]> <![CDATA[And I have experienced how the gospel has changed my life]]> <![CDATA[and brought so much happiness to my life and that of my family.]]> <![CDATA[So I couldn't just wait to come and help people]]> <![CDATA[to know that there is a restored gospel that can actually]]> <![CDATA[change their lives and bring joy and lasting]]> <![CDATA[peace to their hearts, families, and in their homes.]]> <![CDATA[I've been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day]]> <![CDATA[Saints for many years. ]]> <![CDATA[Missionaries telling us about the gospel,]]> <![CDATA[it's so wonderful, that I got so touched and decided]]> <![CDATA[to be a member of the Church. ]]> <![CDATA[Yeah, it has made my life better,]]> <![CDATA[and I have joy in my heart. ]]> <![CDATA[The experience of being on a couples mission]]> <![CDATA[will color our life all the rest of our lives.]]> <![CDATA[We won't be able to forget this experience.]]> <![CDATA[As a missionary, you go out to teach the people.]]> <![CDATA[And when you get there, you realize]]> <![CDATA[that you're learning from them as well.]]> <![CDATA[A large part of a mission is service.]]> <![CDATA[Jesus Christ taught us to serve. ]]> <![CDATA[So as missionaries, we go out to find opportunity]]> <![CDATA[to serve and help others. ]]> <![CDATA[When the missionaries go out and serve in a foreign country,]]> <![CDATA[they really give their selves to the people.]]> <![CDATA[They come to love their culture, their food.]]> <![CDATA[They serve the people. ]]> <![CDATA[They love the people. ]]> <![CDATA[They feel a strong bond with the people]]> <![CDATA[for the rest of their lives, and they can now]]> <![CDATA[become ambassadors for this country.]]> <![CDATA[That country is part of me, and it's really close to my heart.]]> <![CDATA[And I literally think about it on a daily basis.]]> <![CDATA[When you serve people, you love them.]]> <![CDATA[You're able to spend so much time with them]]> <![CDATA[and have connections, and then you end up always loving them.]]> <![CDATA[We come from different countries.]]> <![CDATA[We speak different languages. ]]> <![CDATA[As missionaries, we really want everyone]]> <![CDATA[to know that we truly are children of God.]]> <![CDATA[I love my mission. ]]> <![CDATA[It's a joy to do it because I see them like they are,]]> <![CDATA[they truly are. ]]> <![CDATA[There's a moment when someone's life changes.]]> <![CDATA[That moment brings us joy. ]]> <![CDATA[ ]]>
