Uniform Temple Garments

For those who have received the temple endowment, temple garments are “an outward expression of an inward commitment to follow the Savior,” (First Presidency letter, Oct. 10, 1988). Garments serve as a reminder of a commitment to follow God.

When Should I Wear Uniform Garments?

If you have received the temple endowment, you should strive to wear the temple garment whenever possible. Be mindful to avoid exposing the garment to those who do not understand its significance. If you cannot wear the garment because of military regulations or other circumstances beyond your control, your status in the Church is not affected as long as you remain worthy. As soon as circumstances permit, it is your privilege, right, and duty to wear the garment again.

Members and priesthood leaders should consult the military relations sections of the General Handbook: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in section 38 and the current “Garment Guidelines for Military, Law Enforcement, and Firefighters” on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

If you have additional questions about wearing the garment or if priesthood leaders need further information or additional resources, please contact the Military Relations and Chaplain Services Division at 1-801-240-2286 or pst-military@ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
