Crinkled Autumn
September 1979

“Crinkled Autumn,” New Era, Sept. 1979, 51

Crinkled Autumn

Sitting cross-legged

On daddy’s bed,

Listening

As daddy talks,

His eyes glistening

In a past September:

David,

Small overall and barefeet

Running through Ohio woods,

His collie bounding ahead,

Fallen leaves re-rustling.

The sharing is over.

I kiss daddy good night

And leave

With crinkled autumn

Between my toes.
