“Settling to Sleep,” New Era, Aug. 1989, 23
Dusk settles over the valley
Like a hen starting to roost,
Nestling the houses under its soft down
As if they were chicks.
Finally,
Assured that all is well,
It brings its wings down over the mountains
And rests peacefully until dawn.
