Having a Bad Day?

January is a great time to start new projects and set goals. But to reach those goals, you can’t let discouragement get you down. Here are some ways to combat the bad-day blahs:

  • Don’t dwell on problems. Instead, make a list of solutions for your problems. Then go to work on the list, one item at a time.

  • Feeling bad about a disappointment is natural, but don’t drown yourself in self-pity. Move on.

  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Your parents, bishop, teachers, and friends are all there for you. A trusted priesthood holder can give you a blessing if necessary.

  • Stay busy. Moping doesn’t solve anything, so go for a walk, talk to a friend, or play a game.

  • Laugh. Look for the humor in bad situations.

  • Pray. Heavenly Father knows what you’re going through.

  • Set goals. Failed your last math test? Make a goal to pass the next one.

  • Read the scriptures. Learn how people in the scriptures handled tough times, and follow their examples.

  • Spend time with happy people. Uplifting company is sometimes enough to lift your spirits.

  • Count your blessings. Thinking about what’s right in your life can make you feel better.

  • Listen to uplifting music.

  • Put things in perspective by learning to view life’s challenges from a broader, eternal point of view (see Jacob 4:13).

  • Be patient. Remember the Lord blesses those who “endure to the end” (see 1 Ne. 13:37).
