Becoming More Christlike

This month your Sunday lessons will focus on becoming more Christlike (see lds.org/youth/learn and page 40). One lesson asks, “How can I become more Christlike?” As you discuss the topic in your family, classes, and quorums, you can use the May 2013 Ensign or conference.lds.org, because “all of the messages of this conference help us follow in the footsteps of our Savior, whose example and teachings define the path for every follower of Jesus Christ” (Dallin H. Oaks, “Followers of Christ,” Ensign, May 2013, 96). In his talk, Elder Oaks also shares how Christ set the example for us in:

  • Baptism.

  • Keeping the commandments.

  • Praying.

  • Serving in God’s kingdom.

  • Loving one another.

  • Forgiving others.

  • Helping the poor and needy.

To learn more about how Christ kept these commandments—and thus how we can—visit lds.org/go/03Follow.

Jesus Christ … invites all of us who are heavy laden to come unto Him, to learn of Him, to follow Him, and thus to find rest to our souls.

The Work of Redemption

Another way to become more like Christ is to help in His work—in bringing others to Him. Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has taught, “Inasmuch as we follow Christ, we seek to participate in and further His redemptive work. …

“While the most important aspects of redemption have to do with repentance and forgiveness, there is a very significant temporal aspect as well. …

“This kind of redemptive work means helping people with their problems. It means befriending the poor and the weak, alleviating suffering, righting wrongs, defending truth, … and achieving security and happiness at home” (“Redemption,” Ensign, May 2013, 110).
