General Questions

What is the purpose of this app?

This app is meant to be a presentation and teaching tool that gives you access to the largest selection of publicly available Church media to organize into playlists or presentations and then present offline. Below is a chart that helps you understand the basic content and functionality differences and similarities between the other key Church apps.

On what devices can I access the app?

The app is available for standard Android and iOS mobile phones and tablets. We know there are other devices out there, but the largest demand has been for Android and iOS. We will continue to explore other options if the demand is there.

What other languages is the app available in?

The app is currently available in English. Additional languages will be available in the coming months.

How can I access captions on the videos?

This is a bug we are currently working to fix in order for captions to appear in the video player within the app. Look for a fix in the coming weeks.

Why isn’t there more media in the app?

We launched the app with a basic set of Church media, but we will continue to add media in the coming weeks and months.

iOS Questions

Where can I download the app?

The app is available to download for both iPhones and iPads in the App Store. You can download it by going to https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/lds-media-library/id1104343394?mt=8.

Where can I learn how to use the app?

A basic user guide can be found at https://www.lds.org/pages/mobileapps/media-library-app/ios-user-guide?lang=eng.

How do I download media?

By adding media to a playlist within the app, you are downloading media to your device, which then enables you to present offline without using the internet. See “How do I add media to a playlist?” for further instructions.

How do I add media to a playlist?

You can add media to your playlists while browsing or searching or while in your playlist screen. Internet access is required to add media to the playlist. Once the media is added, it is then downloaded to your device and can be played offline. When viewing media from the featured screen, browse, or search, you will see a cloud icon at the top right. Tap the icon to add the media to a playlist. You can choose to add it to an existing playlist or you can create a new playlist. Your playlists will appear on the home screen of the app in a playlists section. You can also view all media that has been downloaded in the My Library screen.

How do I trim videos and music?

The trimming functionality is found in the playlist screen. Once you’ve added a video or piece of music to a playlist within the app, you should be able to view the playlist and the media you’ve added by tapping on the Playlist menu item on the bottom and then the playlist you want to view. After tapping on the video or music in your playlist, you will see in the right side a preview of the video, the video description, notes, and then an option that says Trim. Tapping on the Trim option brings up a preview ribbon under the video or music file with sliders on either side. By tapping and holding onto the sliders, you can adjust the start and stop points of the video or music file to play just the section you want.

How do I play a video on a projector or second screen?

You can present media from your playlists on a second screen or projector by using a composite cord or through an HDMI cord with the necessary adapters for your device. To present, open the playlist you wish to display. Once you’ve connected to a second screen, a Broadcast icon will appear in the top right of the playlist screen. Tap on the Broadcast icon and you will enter Presenter Mode. Your first slide will appear on the second screen and your playlist with notes will show on your device. Slide your finger across the screen from right to left to advance to the next slide.

How do I delete media I’ve downloaded within the app?

Manage all of your media by tapping on My Library in the navigation bar. Deleting media from My Library will delete the media items from your device and remove them from any playlists using them. Delete media from My Library by tapping the Select icon on the menu bar at the top of the screen. Tap on media files you want to delete, press the Trash icon on the menu bar, and choose Delete.

Deleting an entire playlist will also delete all media included in that playlist from My Library unless it’s included in another playlist.
