(1) Appointed high priest by Antiochus Epiphanes, about 175 B.C.; he tried to introduce Greek customs and established a gymnasium in Jerusalem.

(2) The Thessalonian, a kinsman of Paul (Acts 17:5–9; Rom. 16:21).
