Serving as a facilitator went beyond Quinn’s expectations. Like most of us, he has explored a variety of ways to manage his finances, but in the past he left out the one thing that could help the most: God.

The scriptures teach several important principles that we can follow as we manage our personal finances.

Sacrifice. Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven. This is true whether we are offering the firstlings of our flock or giving up something we want in order to make our budget work.

Faith. When we are faithful and obedient, we are blessed. God has asked us to follow spiritual laws like the law of tithing. But we also need to follow temporal laws like interest rates. We can let our money grow in a savings account to leverage interest, and we can pay down our debt to avoid paying higher interest rates.

Persistence. Throughout the scriptures, people do their best when they persist in righteousness. They become contentious when they fall away from their faithful practices. Enduring in obedience seems to be the hardest part of being human. We need to keep our hearts on God and our minds on our work.

When we make a financial plan, we can save ourselves a lot of heartache if we decide beforehand what to do when we are successful. There are plenty of organizations that need help. When we achieve all that we need, we can help others do the same.
