Explore Our Journey through History Together

Man reading Saints

With the release of Saints: The Story of the Church of Jesus Christ in the Latter Days, Volume 1, The Standard of Truth, 1815–1846 on September 4, 2018, and the Worldwide Devotional: A Face to Face Event with Elder Quentin L. Cook on September 9, 2018, we’re encouraging you and your institute students to gather together to read Saints September 7–8, 2018.

Hosting your own readathon using #Saintsathon on Facebook and Twitter in preparation for the event with Elder Cook will help strengthen testimonies and answer questions. Remember that students may still submit any questions about topics found in the book for the event.

Need some ideas? Get your institute councils involved as you think of fun and engaging ways to involve your students in your readathon. You could host a breakfast party, gather together in a park, or even hold a “book group” after reading a few chapters together. You and your students don’t have to read the full book in one night; just gather together to have fun and to help your students be excited about Saints and the devotional.

Additionally, you can use your #Saintsathon as a great way to kick off any of the following Church history institute classes:

  • Foundations of the Restoration (Rel 225)
  • Doctrine and Covenants (Sections 1 to 76) (Rel 324)
  • Doctrine and Covenants (Sections 77 to 138) (Rel 325)
  • Latter-day Saint History: 1815–1846 (Rel 341)
  • Introduction to Family History (Rel 390R)

Saints will be released September 4, 2018, but you can begin reading the first chapters now in the Gospel Library app or at history.lds.org/saints. Click here to preorder your copy of Saints.

Feel free to add to the conversation on Twitter via #Saintsathon or have your Facebook page tag @ldshistory to join the Saints readathon!
