The Positive Use of Assessments

Seminary learning assessments help students gauge their understanding and knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Seminary learning assessments help students understand, explain, apply, and testify of important doctrine and principles. As one student said, “[The learning assessment] helped me to come [to seminary] to learn and prepare myself to know the doctrine and know the gospel.”

As teachers or administrators, we can prepare to help students successfully complete the learning assessments by viewing the video “Best Practices for Learning Assessments” (8:30), available on LDS.org. When the video prompts you, review and complete the sections in the document “Best Practices for Learning Assessments.”

You can also help students successfully complete the seminary learning assessments by consistently teaching, emphasizing, and reviewing the major doctrine and principles throughout the course. Study guides are provided to help teachers and students identify some of each course’s major doctrine and principles.
