Why “I Am a Child of God” Matters

As today’s youth face questions of identity, purpose, and potential, the Apostle Paul’s sermon from Mars’ Hill couldn’t be more relevant. “We are the offspring of God,” he declared, reminding listeners of all ages that God is our literal Father (Acts 17:29). This month, as you share this important truth with your students, testify that when we understand our identity as children of Heavenly Father, we can recognize our infinite value to Him and realize our potential to become like Him.

As you ponder how you might discuss this principle with your students, consider reviewing the following general conference messages.

Invite Students to Share

Discuss with your students the importance of understanding this basic truth of the gospel. Then invite them to use social media to testify that they are children of a loving Heavenly Father who values them and wants them to be like Him. Shareable images can be found on the Seminary Facebook page and are included at the end of this article.

How to Share

In your discussions with your students, encourage them to think about how they can discover their true identity as children of God and why that understanding helps them realize their true potential. As you and your students share thoughts on social media, consider answering the following questions:

  • What helps me remember I am a child of God?
  • What can I accomplish because I know I’m a child of God?
