Winners of the 1973 Relief Society–Ensign Writing Contests

Winners of the 1973 Relief Society–Ensign short story and poem contests have been selected. The contest is sponsored to stimulate creative writing among Latter-day Saint women. Winners for 1973 are:

Short Story. First place ($100), Barbara A. Lewis, Salt Lake City, for “Lilies Grow Wild” (printed on page 28). Second place ($75), Jeanine Rutishauser, Los Angeles, for “The Foreigner.” Third place ($60), Mildred Barthel, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for “Take to the Path Gently.” The second- and third-place winners will appear in subsequent issues of the Ensign.

Poem. First place ($50), Helen Marr Cook, Ogden, Utah, for “Earth Woman” (page 24). Second place ($40), Lucille Rampton Perry, Bountiful, Utah, for “Of Breath and Sound” (page 26). Third place ($30), Reba Beth Russell, Champaign, Illinois, for “Love, Forever” (page 27).
