Saturday Morning, 1 October 1983, General Session

The Salt Lake Mormon Tabernacle Choir, directed by Donald Ripplinger, with organist John Longhurst, sang “For the Strength of the Hills” by Stephens (Hymns, no. 241), “The Lord’s Prayer” by Robertson (Galaxy), “Send Forth Thy Spirit” by Schuetky (C. C. Birchard), “Savior, Redeemer of My Soul” by Dean (Hymns, no. 155), “Praise Ye the Father” by Gounod, arr. Riegger (Flammer), “As the Dew from Heaven Distilling” by Daynes (Hymns, no. 232), and “Hear Thou Our Hymn, O Lord” by Asper (Hymns, no. 96). The congregation sang “High on the Mountain Top” by Beesley (Hymns, no. 62).

Saturday Afternoon, 1 October 1983, General Session

The Mormon Youth Chorus, directed by Robert C. Bowden, with organist Roy Darley, sang “I Need Thee Every Hour” by Lowry (Hymns, no. 79), “O Divine Redeemer” by Gounod (Corporation of the President), “O My Father” by McGranahan (Hymns, no. 139), and “Praise Ye the Lord” by Franck (Boston Music Co.). The congregation sang “The Spirit of God Like a Fire Is Burning” by Phelps (Hymns, no. 213).

Saturday Evening, 1 October 1983, Priesthood Session

The Combined Tabernacle Choir and Mormon Youth Men’s Choir, directed by Jerold Ottley and Robert C. Bowden, with organist Clay Christiansen, sang “Glory to God on High” by Giardini (Hymns, no. 319), “See the Mighty Priesthood Gathered” by Manookin (manuscript), and “Ye Who Are Called to Labor” by Page (Hymns, no. 345). The congregation sang “We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet” by Norton (Hymns, no. 196).

Sunday Morning, 2 October 1983, General Session

The Tabernacle Choir, directed by Jerold Ottley, with organist Robert Cundick, sang “Hail to the Brightness of Zion’s Glad Morning” by Parry (Hymns, no. 182), “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” by Wyeth (Hymns, no. 70), “The Morning Breaks” by Careless, arr. Lyon (Deseret Book), “Sweet Is the Work” by McClellan (Hymns, no. 168), “Praise to the Man” by Phelps (Hymns, no. 147), “Lo, My Shepherd Is Divine” by Haydn (B. F. Wood Music Co.), and “When Rooks Fly Homeward” (“Then Comes the Quiet of Christ to Me”) by Baynon (Boosey & Co., Ltd.). The congregation sang “Hope of Israel” by Clayson (Hymns, no. 64).

Sunday Afternoon, 2 October 1983, General Session

The Tabernacle Choir, directed by Jerold Ottley, with organist John Longhurst, sang “Awake, Ye Saints of God, Awake!” by Stephens (Hymns, no. 229), “As the Hart Pants (Yearns)” by Mendelssohn (G. Schirmer), “Ye Simple Souls Who Stray” by Stephens (Hymns, no. 290), and “Precious Savior, Dear Redeemer” by Palmer, arr. Manookin (manuscript). The congregation sang “How Firm a Foundation” by Kirkham (Hymns, no. 66).
