Brigham Young laid the cornerstone for this magnificent tabernacle 9 May 1865. Members then spent twenty-five years building the structure, which was dedicated in 1890 but destroyed by fire six years later. The Saints rebuilt the Gothic building, adding several spires, the tower, and additional seating. The tabernacle was rededicated 21 March 1897, and made a Utah historical site 3 June 1970.

Inside back cover: The Peter Whitmer, Sr., Home, by Al Rounds, 22″ by 28″, watercolor, 1984. Courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Bushnell.

The Peter Whitmer, Sr., home in Fayette, New York, was where Joseph Smith completed a large part of the translation of the Book of Mormon and organized the Church on 6 April 1830. The farm was sold in 1831 when the Whitmers moved to Kirtland, Ohio, with the Saints. This reconstruction of the home, furnished with period antiques, was dedicated as a Church visitors’ center as part of the April 1980 general conference.
