The New Era

A Dual Issue

Highlighting Personal Progress and Duty to God, the September issue is a collection of personal experiences, ideas for fulfilling experiences, and answers to questions. The Young Women and Young Men organizations are represented in the two halves of the magazine. The issue features a special message for young women from Elder Shayne M. Bowen on page YW4, and a message especially for young men from Elder Craig C. Christensen on page AP4.

Setting and Reaching Goals

A group of young men in England reach some ambitious goals they have set for themselves in “One Year, 3 Goals” on page AP18. In the Young Women half of the magazine, read “Where Music Leads,” on page YW22, about a Beehive who fulfills a Personal Progress experience to learn to lead music. This experience leads her to become the ward chorister and to look forward to making music her life’s work.

The Friend

Prepare to Do Baptisms for the Dead

Do you know a child who is preparing to go to the temple for the first time to perform baptisms for the dead? “Preparing to Do Baptisms for the Dead” on page 7 can help children understand what they can do to prepare to enter the temple and what they can expect to happen when they are there.

Building Families

“Be a Family Builder” on page 24–25 helps children understand that in addition to striving for happiness in the home, they can also build relationships with members of their ward and extended families. They also can prepare themselves now for the future families they will create.
