A Clever Cat

You will need: paste, scissors, and colored construction paper.

Cut out the shape of the cat’s face from a piece of black construction paper 5″ by 6″.

Cut one strip of black paper 12″ by 2 1/2″; cut two more strips 12″ by 2″. Pleat the 12″ by 2 1/2″ strip in folds 1/2″ wide, folding one way and then the other.

Cut round corners on the other two strips and roll the ends around a pencil so both ends are turned in toward the center (see illustration).

Paste one of the two curled paper strips to each end of the pleated paper strip, making sure both curled pieces are attached the same way.

Paste the face of the cat at one end of the pleated strip so that curled strips are turned inward (see illustration).

Cut out eyes, nose, mouth, whiskers, and tail from construction paper and paste in place. You may wish to curl the tail by rolling it around a pencil.
