Walnut Wind Chimes

You will need: 36 walnuts, table knife, two sturdy sticks 12″ (30 cm.) long, scissors, ruler, rug yarn, flue, rubber bands.

  1. Pry open walnut shells carefully with table knife. Remove nut and save for baking. Keep shell halves together so each pair will match when glued.

  2. Form an X with sticks and wrap and tie in middle with yarn.

  3. Cut twelve 16″ (40 cm.) lengths of yarn.

  4. Tie three knots on each yarn piece (see illustration). Remember to leave space at top of string for tying to sticks. Place walnut halves over each knot, and glue together. Secure each shell with rubber band. When glue dries, remove rubber bands.

  5. Tie three lengths of yarn to each wooden spoke.

  6. Hang wind chime where breeze will set shells in motion.
