When Mother Reads to Me
May 1996

“When Mother Reads to Me,” Friend, May 1996, 24–25

When Mother Reads to Me

I can climb the highest mountains

and look down upon each town;

I can sail on every ocean,

laugh at all the silly clowns …

when Mother reads to me.

I can laugh away my worries

on a dark and stormy night;

I can kill a fearsome dragon

as a strong and fearless knight …

when Mother reads to me.

I can talk with all the animals,

walk with mighty kings,

go to places near and far,

and see the strangest things …

when Mother reads to me.

I can be an astronaut in space,

the pilot of a plane;

I can fight and lick a forest fire;

I can travel on a train …

when Mother reads to me.

I’ve made a lot of special friends

who are always there with me.

I’m never, ever all alone—

’cause Mother reads to me!
