John the Baptist Cover Note

“… Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. … Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?” (Matt. 6:28–29, 31.)

Like the lilies of the field, John the Baptist was clothed and fed by our Heavenly Father. He took no thought for himself but was a voice crying in the wilderness preparing the way for Jesus Christ. As a missionary he was provided with the basic necessities of life. He took no thought for raiment and was provided skins of animals for clothing. He took no thought for food but was provided honey and locusts for his sustenance. He took counsel from nature and was given the spiritual blessings to provide and prepare the way for the Savior.
