“Brothers,” New Era, Sept. 1995, 51

Brothers

No matter how hard

The years try to separate us

There will always be the together days

Of times past

When you remember

We slept in the homemade treehouse

Way up

Just the two of us

And ached for days later

But didn’t care

Because we were boys

And boys did things like that

Or the time

We made wooden walkie-talkies

And talked for hours

Like our sister did on the phone

And at supper

Mom was proud that our meat was gone

But she never knew

A dog was a boy’s best friend too

Well we’re older now

But still brothers

Forever
